Beacon Of Democracy And Freedom?

Not the United States of America!

When the US brazenly asked the Indian government to send troops to Iraq and the Indian government abjectly said they would think about it, I was horrified. I sent a letter to The Economic Times which they published on June 13, 2003. Since the letter was available on their website too, I put a link to that page on my website. An American (who mistook me for a compatriot even after visiting the IndiaTimes portal) wrote to me saying

… it seems like some people just can't stand to have an honest, honorable man leading them. it's pretty amazing that this "politician" is a Christian man with degrees from harvard AND yale, he says what he means, and does what he says. he's never raped anyone, he's never perjured himself under oath, he never sold military secrets to china, and he really does love his wife …

I wrote to him saying that

In my opinion, it wouldn't make any difference even if GWB was a non-believer or a wife-beater. Remember, that Hitler was a Christian too and a strong believer in Martin Luther's teachings. In fact, he used Martin Luther's exhortations against Jews as a basis of (sic) Nazism. A man's personal foibles need not be seen as a negative for being a leader. It is actions as a leader that counts … 9-11 was sad, but to use it for private profit was wrong and unethical. The war in iraq was for oil and there is no question about it …

In his reply, he said that

… The war in Iraq was not for oil; America has vast oilfields that are yet untapped. This action was an extension of the "first" Gulf war because Hussein did not abide by the terms of surrender. This was a punitive strike. The U.N. was too emasculated to do anything about it and the previous administration did nothing militarily except when it was necessary to divert attention from their legal issues... Americans in war ALWAYS target military installations. We do not choose to attack innocent people like the terrorist groups do …

This is how Americans think. You can't blame them because they don't know any better. The US has vast oil fields, but they cannot be exploited because of high costs and environmental concerns. The UN was emasculated because the US managed to appoint a stooge as the Secretary General. The American military does target civilians.

After a telephone exchange with thousands of men and women was bombed in Baghdad, an American military spokesman said that the building was targeted intentionally because they suspected the communications infrastructure was used for military purposes.

In the film Terminator 2, Arnold Schwarznegger uses an automatic weapon on a large number of policemen. His visual display unit assesses the damage and says "Human Casualities: 0.0". When the same weapon was used on helicopter gunships in Somalia, the civilian casualities were 4000.0.

The US never tires of talking about freedom and democracy. But, almost all the countries from Mexico to Chile are run by American companies. Politicians and bureaucrats in these countries put the interest of American companies before that of their public. Whether it is trading in bananas or mining for copper, American companies prefer to do business only when they have complete control of the political apparatus. To this end, they try to put the top politicians in their pocket. If they can't, they try to assasinate him or ask some military general to effect a coup. If that doesn't work, they start armed insurgencies. Millions have died in such disturbances. Groups backed by the US have destroyed thousands of homes, schools, churches, and hospitals in these countries. In South America, there are whole museums dedicated to people who had disappeared in such events.

And all this is not limited to the Americas. In Vietnam, the US killed millions of people. Widespread use of chemical weapons like Agent Orange are producing deformed babies even today. In Cambodia, they supported Pol Pot who again killed millions of people. In Indonesia, over a million people lost their lives after Gen. Suharto was brought to power by the CIA. In Korea, hundreds of thousands were killed by the military, at the behest of the US. The US is the major stumbling block for any raprochment between the two Koreas. Similarly, in Japan, Okinawa has been prevented from being properly integrated with the rest of Japan, thanks to the US. Even in India, the US provided help for insurgents in the North East. The communist government in Kerala was dismissed by Indira Gandhi at the behest of the US.

Even American citizens suffer from actions of American companies. The armed conflicts mentioned above were financed by drug syndicates run by shady government organizations like the CIA. The illicit crop is grown in third world countries, while the produce is sold in North America and Europe. The US supported the Kosovo Liberation Army despite their known involvement in drug and crime syndicates across Europe. The Taliban for instance was created by the US, Pakistan, UK, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE to take complete control of Afghanistan from the warlords who had been occupying it since the Soviets left. The reason obviously was to help an American company called Unocal bring Central Asian oil and gas to the Bay of Bengal. Even after 9-11, the truth about this is not being told.
