All the talk about whether Sonia Gandhi deserves to become the Prime Minister of the country has ignored the question whether the Congress deserves to be elected to power.

That apart, the communists have strangely offered their support for Sonia and her ambitions. These are the guys who usually call the US and other western countries as “imperialists.” Newspapers like The Hindu, which publishes USIS propaganda as news items, have said that there can’t be one class of citizens who can qualify to become PM and a second class of citizens who can’t.

We have also been lectured that it would not be democratic to deny Ms. Gandhi the job of PM. But we have not been told why Ms. Gandhi is so fixated on getting the top slot and why others in that party cannot have the job instead. When the successor of Narasimha Rao, Sitaram Kesri, was holding out as the party President, Sonia Gandhi sent a bunch of thugs to his office who literally picked him up and threw him out. Perhaps, Ms. Gandhi should explain why she chose such a “democratic” manner to become the head of the party.
